Moral Money: ‘I wasn’t going to invite someone to my wedding – then she asked me to be her bridesmaid’

I am getting married early next year and was planning to invite some people as evening guests only, rather than for the whole day. We are on a budget and need to keep costs down.

Just before we sent out our invitations, however, one of my friends on the evening-only guest list asked me to be a bridesmaid at her wedding in 2020.

She is planning a much larger party than we are. I don’t want to offend or upset her, but I also don’t want to spend £300 upgrading her and her fiancé to the full day guest list, when evening guests cost just £15.

Do I have to rethink my guest list and budget?
