‘The Cathedral is close to my family home and where I was brought up as child. I had always wanted to go for a marquee style wedding reception but after a lot of thinking and advice from others we decided to play it safe with a barn incase the weather was not on our side.
We wanted to go for something a bit rustic and quirky, with a typically British countryside theme.
We kept transport traditional and travelled in a beautiful old classic Rolls Royce, and hired an old-fashioned London bus to take guests from the cathedral to our reception venue.
We are real foodies and it was important to us to have good quality food and lots of it. It’s the element I was most proud of on the big day. One man from each table wore a chef hat and personalized apron to carve a joint of meat for everyone at their table. It was a real crowd pleaser!
I asked a close friend, who has experience arranging flowers, for advice on how best to dress the barns and cathedral. We kept the flowers to white and green in the cathedral, and injected some colour at the reception with peach/coral toned flowers.
Ben used to work in events and has very good taste, so we worked really closely on a lot of the planning and details; I trusted him completely.
My top tip: Enjoy every minute and don’t get hung up on the small things – it’ll take the special moment away from you.’
